Your gift of hope has provided relief to thousands of young survivors in Japan's recent tragedies.

Within two months since the worst disasters in the history of Japan hit, many sponsors and donors are involved by taking on the challenge of helping out the survivors from a neighboring country. Coming from different walks of life, people gave as much as they could to help out.

Wahana Visi Indonesia, as the local partner of World Vision, with many generous sponsors and donors in Indonesia have raised over the targeted amount of $35,000 that contributed to World Vision's relief efforts in Japan.
Due to the large scale damage caused by the earthquake, tsunami and an impending threat of a nuclear crisis, World Vision immediately deployed assessment teams within 48-hours. In the most critical times, World Vision Japan was able to work with the government in distributing essential non-food items such as diapers, hygiene kits, toilet rolls, blankets and other necessities to 70,899 individuals living in evacuation centers located by the hardest hit areas.

Keeping the children in the heart of the emergency response, World Vision set up six Child Friendly Spaces (CFS) to help children ages 2-17 years old deal with the effects brought about by the calamities. The CFS gave these children needed respite from the traumatic experiences through play, artworks, counseling, and other activities.

Also to help the children get back on their feet, shoes were distributed to those in evacuation centers. Thirteen year old Fukuya Kato shares, "Without shoes I cannot go to school, and I want to go to school, so I am very happy that I got some shoes today."

As the children are getting back to school, World Vision is continuing its response to the needs of the students through distribution of school kits, uniforms, textbooks and teaching materials. Efforts are ongoing to ensure rehabilitation of affected communities. In the remote case where donations exceed what is needed, or where local conditions prevent program implementation, World Vision will use the funds to help children in similar circumstances.

Through your generous support, many of those affected are regaining the courage to rebuild their lives after the tragic events. Thanks to you, countless children and families are now living in a new hope for tomorrow.
